Broncbusters Swing Their Way to Doubleheader Sweep
Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) The Garden City softball team used their bats to outslug visiting Clarendon College Friday afternoon sweeping both ends of a doubleheader 8-7 and 11-6. Four Broncbusters had two or more hits, Danielle Arnoff went 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI’s. Her two run double in the seventh won game one 8-7. Rachel Roe was solid on the mound for Garden City, but could have used more help behind her defensively. Roe threw seven innings giving up seven unearned runs on six hits while walking one and striking out seven.
Arnoff would continue the hot hitting in game two going a perfect 4-for-4 to spark an 11-6 win for Garden City. After trailing early to Clarendon 3-0 nothing, Garden City would scratch out three runs and two hits in the fourth to grab the lead for good. Clarendon did not go away and narrowed the Garden City lead to 8-6 until the Broncbuster pushed across three runs in the sixth to pull away. Brooke Lovas was the hitting star for game 2 going 3-for-5 with two doubles and knocking in four. Jessica Soliday picked up the win allowing six run, two earned on seven hits.
After the game, head coach Becky Gundy wanted more consistency from her team.
Garden City opens up conference play Wednesday at home against Colby. The doubleheader begins at 2pm.
