Ulysses has two finalists at Colby 4A Regional
Colby, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–On the first day of the Class 4A Regional Wrestling Tournament on Friday at the Colby Community Building, the Goodland Cowboys qualified six wrestlers into the finals and to next weekends state wrestling tournament and have the lead in the team standings. The Cowboys lead Smoky Valley by 36.5 points, while Abilene is in third. Ulysses got two into the finals on Friday night, and qualified them into state. For the Tigers, their two top wrestlers of Diego Maravilla at 195 and Otto Orosco at 220 punched their tickets to state. No other area team had finalists, but were close. Scott City was in 12th place after the first day with 20 points, and Hugoton was in 14th wiht 10.
For Scott City, James Jurgens at 126, Wyatt Kropp at 145 and Warren Kropp at 170 were all in the semi finals, but lost their matches. Hugoton had Bradley Campbell at 195 in the semis, but lost to Maravilla. Ulysses had Luis Mendoza at 126, and Mario Rodriguez at 132 reach the semi finals as well.
