Lady Buffaloes Lose Consolation Championship in Newton
Newton, KS (westernkansasnews.com) At the consolation championship of the Newton Basketball tournament Andover Central used the three pointer to beat Garden City 55-45. Lady Jaguars Junior Brooke Pederson ignited the big win scoring the 1st eleven points for Andover Central and connecting on three 3’s early. Pederson finished with 17 points. After the game, Garden City Head Coach Dave Upton handed it to Pederson that she found her touch at the right time.
Garden City just could not limit the big run. Andover Central had an 11-2 run to begin the game and after the Lady Buffaloes trimmed the deficit at 4 opened up with an 8-0 run to begin the second half. Halfway through the 4th Garden City grabbed their only lead of the game on a driving layup by Taryn Temple to take a 35-34 lead. Andover Central answered back with three from Junior Masen Stamp. Garden City brought it to within three on freshman’s Abbie Dart’s three pointer, she finished with eight. Tionnia McKee led Garden City with 11 points, Jacksenie Tornero had 10.
