Norma Mae McCombs, 77 of Lakin, Kansas died Saturday, October 12, 2013 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. She was born September 6, 1936 in Lakin, Kansas the daughter of Wilbur & Velma (Idhe) Cox.

Norma grew up and lived most of her life in Lakin, Kansas. She attended Lakin schools and graduated from Lakin High School in 1954. She later graduated from the University of Kansas Medical Center in 1973 as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Norma worked as a surgery nurse at both St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City and the Kearny County Hospital in Lakin. She also worked as a LPN at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin. Norma loved animals, reading, cooking, handy work, traveling, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include three children Ric & wife Becky Maerz of Atlanta, Kansas, De & husband John Kanak of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, and Jay & wife Laura Maerz of Parker, Colorado; a grandson Josh & wife Krissy Cox of Lakin, Kansas; two great grandsons Tristen Cox and Gabe Cox; and an expected great granddaughter from China. Norma is preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial Service: 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin, Kansas.

Interment: A private family interment will take place at a later date.

The family requests memorials given to Best Friend Animal Society, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or St. Catherine Hospice all in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Lakin, Kansas.
