GCCC Soccer Coach Resigns
Garden City Community College accepted the resignation Aug. 22 of women’s soccer coach Kianna Thornberry. Thornberry’s resignation is effective immediately, according to Ryan Ruda, GCCC Vice President of Student Services/Athletics.
“We have accepted the resignation of Coach Thornberry,” Ruda said. “We appreciate the contributions she’s made to GCCC women’s soccer and wish her well in her future endeavors.
“We are moving forward with the team competing this season. Our first focus is always on the students and we will be by their side through this transition period.”
The Lady Broncbusters’ season opener against Trinidad State (Colo.) Junior College has been postponed. The game was scheduled for Friday at 5 p.m. Ruda said the college will make an announcement regarding an interim soccer coach soon.
Thornberry, who was beginning her third year as the Broncbuster women’s soccer coach, had a 7-25 record in her two-year career at GCCC.
