Zoo Welcomes New Addition
Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) Last Saturday Officials at the Lee Richardson Zoo celebrated the birth of a new Bactrian camel to Mona and Khan. In honor of his father who passed away last August the new camel is being named Khan Junior or KJ for short. KJ checked in at 132.8 pounds. The young calf is the last of 10 that both parents brought into the world.
Bactrian camels are endangered, with only 600-900 estimated to be left in the Gobi Desert of Mongolia. The zoo and mom are happy with their new addition.
