Youth Participation in Football Remains Strong Here
Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) Football is a rough game. The number of concussions suffered by players at both the pro and college levels has caused parents of younger kids some concern. Over the last three years the percentage of kids playing pop warner football has dropped 10 percent. For now the same level of concern has not reached the YMCA Youth football program in Southwest Kansas.
Y Sports Director Doug Marshall of Garden City says a team will have at least 16 players. As the concern rises for player’s safety, so does the Y’s commitment to keeping kids safe.
Marshall says over the past couple of years, the Y has bought up to 70 new helmets specially designed to reduce the number of concussions.
