Work is expected to be suspended on the U.S. 50/83/400 bypass in Garden City by Friday, Dec. 13.  The bypass will re-open to normal traffic flow from the south U.S. 50 junction/Fulton Street overpass to the K-156 ramps at that time.  Traffic will remain on the ramps at K-156/Kansas Avenue and Mary Street through the winter.

“The contractor has been focused on getting the main line and Spruce Street completed, so that traffic can be moved off the detour as soon as possible,” said Ron Hall, KDOT’s District Six Engineer. “There is still some work to be done on the bridge approaches that will be completed this Spring. This allows us to re-open highway south of K-156 and re-open Spruce Street.”

Originally scheduled to be completed by Thanksgiving, the project has taken a little longer than expected.

“This is a large project,” Hall said. “We’ve had a few complications along the way that have delayed completion of the project, but we’ve kept those to a minimum.”
