Woltman wins 39th SW KS Pro-Am

Garden City, KS(westernkansasnews.com) Dan Woltman shot three straight 67’s for a -13 to win the 39th Southwest Kansas Pro-Am. Woltman won in his first time playing the Pro-Am and took home a $20,000 check for his stellar play at Buffalo Dunes and Southwind.

Woltman won by three shots with Derek Tolan shooting -10 and Derek Chang shooting a -8. It was the second straight win for Woltman after he won the Iowa Open last week.

“This is golf course is very difficult thankfully the wind was down this week, it was a little easier than normal, so I was able to keep the ball in the fairway for birdie chances and didn’t have many bogeys,” said Woltman.

He also spoke highly of his first experience at the Pro-Am.

“It was great I had two great Pro-Am groups the first two days and played with two guys today that were nice,” said Holtman, “this is a cool job to have we get to go to a lot of different parts of the country, otherwise I don’t know when I’d ever come to Garden City. Everyone was welcoming and enjoyed the parties.”

The team of HJ Swender, Herb Swender, Tom Mikulka, Jim Orr and Autin Swender won the amateur tournament shooting a 57 and 55 for a -31.

“Friday was a great team effort, we brother in-lawed pretty good, didn’t know whose shot we would use the whole time. Saturday we struggled a little more had to make some long putts at the end and relied hard on our pro Nick Mason, he shot a 66 and helped us get the win,” said HJ Swender.

The team of Andy King, Trevor Watkins, Brady Eakes, Nick Hatcher and Chad Magner finished second at -30. Anson Garcia, Trevis Vanderpool, Shane Vanderpool, Jimmy Wvderman and Curtis Houser were third at -29.

Of course the main purpose of the Pro-Am is to raise funds for the Newborn Intensive Care Unit at St. Catherine Hospital, this year the goal was $100,000. While the total amount won’t be known until next week Stewardship Coordinator Paige Krauss seemed pleased Sunday.

“We had perfect weather and a great group of pros that enjoyed being here,” said Krauss, “most of all we raised a lot of money, the final numbers aren’t in yet, but I can’t wait to see how much we raised.”
