Scott County Resident Dies From Thursday’s Storms

Scott City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) Scott County Sheriff Glenn Anderson reports that a 62 year old man died in his mobile trailer home 11 miles south and 2 east of Scott City during Thursday night’s storms.  The man has been identified as Marc Kessler. 

The National Weather Service says hurricane type winds were reported in both Lane and Scott Counties.  Sheriff Anderson says the winds caused the home to roll over resulting in a head injury.  Authorities were not able to locate the victim until Friday morning.

Other damage occurred with these storms. Power was knocked out to parts of Greeley County and poles were blown down on Road D west of Highway 27. Authorities say a  grain elevator was blown off in Shallow Water.

National Weather Service Chief Meteorologist Larry Ruthi of Dodge City on how high they measured Thursday night’s winds.

Ruthi says the winds that accompanied this storm push through a huge area.  Wichita also saw the impact of this storm.  Westar believes it may be several days before power is restored to all its customers.
