Wilma G. Culver

Wilma G. Culver, 101, died August 31, 2016 at The Shepherd’s Center in Cimarron. She was born on February 25, 1915 in Wright, the daughter of Isaac Moler and Ida Mae (Reay) Roberts Imel.

At five months of age, Wilma moved with her family to Gray County south of Montezuma. In 1922, the family moved to a farm eight and a half miles southwest of Cimarron. After her mother died when she was nine, Wilma and her sister were raised by their father. At the age of 16, she married Cecil Raymond Denton on June 13, 1931 in Dodge City. He preceded her in death on April 1, 1958. To this union eight sons and three daughters were born. She later married Albert Culver on September 15, 1959 in New Mexico. He preceded her in death on January 30, 1974. She was known by her friends and family as Gertie. She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, and crocheting.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cimarron.

Wilma is survived by five sons, Jack LaVerne Denton of Dodge City, Clovis Dean Denton of Garden City, Ronald Eugene Denton of Carthage, Missouri, Robert Guy Denton of Liberal, and Richard Ray Denton of Carthage, Missouri; one daughter, Darla Kay Kopper of Dodge City; 28 grandchildren; 69 great grandchildren; and 30 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by both husbands, three sons, Cecil Duaine, Vernon Lee, and Donald Leroy Denton; two daughters, Donna Fay Denton and Sharon Ann Smith; and one sister, Martha Harrier. 

Funeral service will be held at Cimarron Baptist Church on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. with Rev. Richard Deimund presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel of Cimarron on Monday, September 5, 2016 from noon to 6:00 P.M. Memorials are suggested to The Shepherd’s Center in care of the funeral home.
