Wichita Trinity takes two from Scott City
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Scott City wrapped up a tough week of competition Saturday afternoon, as Wichita Trinity was the third opponent to face the Beaver basketball teams this week. It would be a tough day as well for both Scott City teams, as the Lady Knights came out blazing in the first half with 58 points, en route to a 75-55 win, while the Trinity boys led from the get go, and pulled away for a 56-38 win.

Wichita Trinity came in without a win, but had two losses to solid teams in Garden Plain and Liberal. They took out their frustration early and often in the first half, as they raced out to a 24-12 first quarter lead, only to put up 34 second quarter points behind 63 percent shooting, to lead 58-24 lead at the break. Wichita Trinity used runs of 12-2, and 14-2 in the second qurater to build their large lead. Despite being down big, Scott City would battle back and show fight in the second half. After seeing their largest deficit at 60-24 with 7:35 left in the third quarter, the Lady Beavers scored 10 straight, and trailed 61-34 heading into the final period. They would add 21 more points in the fourth quarter, and pulled to within 20 points at the end at 75-55.
Washburn volleyball and basketball signee Austin Broadie had 23 of her 28 points in the first half, while Aubrey Winter finished with 19 points. The Lady Knights finished 24-34 at the line and had 14 turnovers. Amber Latta had a career-high 18 points, while Brooke Strine added 14 and Erika Felker had her first double digit scoring mark of her career with 12 points. The Lady Beavers went 10-15 at the line, and had 26 rebounds.
Wichita Trinity leads the all-time series with Scott City 7-1.

Wichita Trinity Boys 56, Scott City 38
The Beavers came off their roughest game of the season at Liberal less than 24 hours ago. While they didn’t pick up the win, Scott City made strides in the right direction Saturday afternoon. Wichita Trinity would jump out to a 13-4 lead after the first quarter, as the Beavers were yet again plagued with a slow start. While Scott City would would get to within 17-9 with 5:49 left in the half, they couldn’t gain any more ground, as Wichita Trinity gradually pulled away to take a 30-16 halftime lead. The Beavers were only able to get under 10 points once at the second half at 34-25 with 3:36 left in the third frame, and actually outscored the Knight in the third period of play 14-12, and trailed 42-30 after three quarters. Wichita Trinity was able to pull away win the fourth quarter and closed the game on a 5-1 run for their largest margin of the game at 18, with a final of 56-38. It was their lowest point total of the season, after they came in averaging 70 points a game.
Bryson Perez led the way with 12 points on four three’s, and Christian Williams had 11, after averaging 27 points in his first two games. The Knights had 32 rebounds in the game and 12 turnovers. Scott City didn’t have anyone in double figures, as Harrison King led the way with seven points. They saw nine players score, with five of them scoring at least five points. The Beavers had 11 turnovers and 18 rebounds.
Wichita Trinity has won three of the last four in the series, as Scott City leads the series 5-3.
