Whistle Stop Tour Celebrates Recent Repairs to Track For SW Chief
Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) That is the sound of Amtrak train moving through Southwest Kansas on a whistle stop tour highlighting the success of previous repairs to keep the SW Chief from LA to Chicago up and running. Local and state officials were on board. Joining them was Amtrak CEO Joe Boardman.
Boardman and others are committed to keeping rail a viable option in the region.
President and CEO of the Finney County Economic Development Corporation Lona DuVall believes rail can keep a growing economy strong.
Boardman likes the commitment he hears coming out of Washington.
A strong partnership help secure 27 million dollars of improvements to the railroad in our region from two TIGER grants over the past three years. More request are expected in future years.
