Sunday’s Accident in Kearny County Claims a Life
Lakin, KS (westernkansasnews.com) The Kearny County Sheriff’s Department reports nine people were injured, seven hospitalized and four were taken to Wichita area hospitals in a two vehicle accident on Highway 50 Sunday morning shortly after 10, nine miles west of Lakin.
Deputies say 18 year old Griffin Brooks of Gardner attempted to pass another vehicle in a no passing zone and 71 year old Larry Ochs of Syracuse tried to avoid Brooks before the collision occurred on the shoulder. The passengers in Brook’s car included 19 year old Logan Brooks of Gardner and 17 year olds Armando Rodriguez, Dalton Houle and Nicholas Cook all of Wichita.
The passengers with Ochs included 59 year old Donna Ochs along with 16 year old Cassandra Brewer and 14 year old Madison Brewer. The teens are both from Arkansas.

One of the victims in Sunday morning’s crash has died from his injuries. 17 year old Dalton Houle of Wichita passed Monday night. He had been taken to a Wichita area hospital after the two car wreck Sunday morning in Kearney County.
Houle was an incoming senior at Northwest High School a member of the cheer team and had plans to attend Florida State University after graduation. About 150 students and faculty attended a memorial service for Houle at Northwest High School Monday night.
