Sears photoWalter Alvin Sears, age 88, died Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas.  He was born February 25, 1926 in Gem, Kansas the son of John Milton and Lula Jennings Sears.  A Garden City resident since 1953, he was a retired shift foreman for Northern Natural Gas Company and owner/operator of Seaco Plastics sign business.  He was a World War II United States Marine Corps veteran.

On April 24, 1949, he married Melvina Donavee Luther in Cimarron, Kansas.  She passed away on November 8, 2010 in Garden City, Kansas.

Survivors include:

  • Four Daughters, Norah Luanne Sears,
  • Melva Jean (& Steve) Cottrell,
  • Gayla Sue (& Gary) Elliott, and
  • Janet Marie (& Roger) Reed, all of Garden City, KS;
  • Fifteen Grandchildren and Four Great-Grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by his Parents, his Wife, Four Brothers and One Sister.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at the Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City.

Interment will be in the Valley View Cemetery, Garden City, Kansas.

Friends may call from 10:00am-8:00pm Friday at the Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City, Kansas.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Finney County Humane Society or Meals on Wheels, both in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home.
