WAC Champs; GCHS volleys past the field
Garden City, Kan (westernkansasnews.com)-One emphatic statement by Garden City Head Coach Rod Robinson:
“This it what it’s all about.”
The Buffaloes shook off years of frustration on the conference’s biggest stage-taking first at the Western Athletic Conference Championships at the Garden City High School Tennis Center Monday afternoon.
Dozie Ekweariri, who started the year playing doubles, rolled to a first-place finish in No. 2 singles-rolling to a 4-0 mark.
“We’ve come a long way since the beginning of the season,” Ekweariri said. “If fells real good to win WAC, especially with this area.”
The senior got plenty of help from his teammates-specifically the No. 2 doubles team of Joe Basillo and Jose Depaz. The duo went 4-0-knocking off Hays’ Jacob Alexander and Trent Flora 8-0.
Dodge City finished second.
“It’s definitely a credit to my assistant coaches,” Demons Head Coach Mark Sandbo said. “We battled all day.”
Great Bend placed third followed by Liberal and Hays.
