Virginia R. Miller
Virginia R. Miller, 85, died March 18, 2016 at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains, Dodge City. She was born on July 21, 1930 near Mullinville, Kansas the daughter of Clay and Sybil (Gordon) Neier.
She graduated from Mullinville High School in 1948. Mrs. Miller continued her education by attending and graduating from St. Anthony School of Nursing in Dodge City in 1951 as a Registered Nurse. She married Duane Miller on April 1, 1951 in Bucklin, he preceded her in death on September 1, 1993. Her relationship with God was important in her life from early membership in the United Brethern Church in Mullinville to participating in the Ensign United Methodist Church as a member. She was also involved in many Bible Studies in the First Christian Church of Dodge City. Mrs. Miller was a founding member of the Dodge City Pairs and Squares Dance Club, a former member of the Happy Hour Extension Unite of Dodge City and of Ensign Order of the Eastern Star. She was also very active in the Nightengale Club and Red Hat Golden Girls of Dodge City. She has been a pen pal since her youth and their friendship was treasured like extended family as were her many friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband Duane, her parents Clay and Sybil, grandson Adam Kimbrel; and several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include three sons Kenneth Miller and wife Maryann of Ensign; Gregory Miller and wife Peggy of Ensign; Kevin Miller and wife Ashley of Valley Center, Kansas; one daughter Lanna Kimbrel and husband Rick of Winfield, Kansas; sister, Juanita Lieber, Goddard, Kansas; brother-in-law Wilbur Miller and wife Janet, Wellington, Kansas; five grandchildren Amber Miller of Mesa, Arizona; Darrick Kimbrel of Hays, Kansas; Heather Kimbrel of Winfield, Kansas; Dylan and Eli Miller, both of Valley Center, Kansas; and four great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City, on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Jerry Odle presiding. Burial will follow at the Ensign Cemetery in Ensign, Kansas. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City, on Monday, March 21, 2016 from 12:00 to 8:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Great Plains Christian Radio or the Ensign United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
