Virgil Moyne Morris, 86, died Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at the Stanton County Hospital in Johnson, Kansas. He was born on February 11, 1933, the son of Robert Morris and Bernita (Webb) Morris Jones.

Virgil (Moyne) was born in Sterling, Kansas. He graduated from high school in Bristol, Oklahoma. He married Wilma Jean Sturdevant on July 19th, 1953 in Garden City, Kansas. He was known as Moyne until he went to the Army. Virgil was drafted to the Army for 2 years and stationed in El Paso, Texas at Fort Bliss Army Base. Then, Virgil and his family moved back to the Garden City area. In 1963, Virgil moved his family to Johnson, Kansas to work for Royce Fiss. Later, Virgil and LaVerne Fiss became farming partners creating the farm Fiss and Morris for 25 years.

Virgil and Jean moved to their country home in 1988, south of Johnson. Virgil and his youngest son Randy began farming together and raising cattle. Virgil retired from farming in 1999. After retirement, Virgil and Jean enjoyed camping in their motorhome. Virgil was a very giving man. He enjoyed handing out candy, sweet corn, and calendars to anyone. Virgil and Jean moved to town in 2009, and then to the Memorial Living Center in the fall of 2015.

Virgil was an active member of Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church. He looked forward to attending each Sunday and made sure he had candy in his pockets for the kids.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Wilma Jean (Sturdevant) Morris, two sons, Michael (Connie) Morris of Olathe, Kansas; Randall (Angela) Morris of Johnson, Kansas; two daughters, Patricia (John) Long of Shawnee, Kansas; Sharita (Dan) Floyd of Wellington, Kansas. Virgil is survived by his brother Jim Morris of Norfolk, Nebraska and sisters Sharon (Dennis) Massion of Scottsdale, Arizona; Nita (Phillip) Kellerman of Avon, Indiana. Virgil leaves ten grandchildren, Christopher, Daniel, and Robert Morris, Amanda Davidson, Emily Long, Andrew and Zachary Floyd, Ryan, Andrea, and Alison Morris. Virgil had 13 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Morris and Bernita (Webb) Morris Jones, brothers Neil Morris, Boyd Morris, Robert (Chuck) Morris, and sister Maureen Main.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 1, 2019, at Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church in Johnson, Kansas with Reverend Kurt Rovenstine officiating. Interment will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson, Kansas with military graveside rites by VFW Post #3684. Friends may call from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, May 31, 2019, with family present from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.
