Vicki Marie Reed
Vicki Marie Reed, 57 passed away at her home in Montezuma on Tuesday, March 15, 2016.
She was born April 1, 1958 in Dodge City, the daughter of Victor & Louise (Monniger) Thomas of Montezuma. Vicki was a graduate of Montezuma High School, and Fort Hays State University, with a B.S. in Elementary Education, and later a Masters Degree in Special Education. She married Jeff Reed on June 7, 1980 in Montezuma.
Along with her husband of 35 years, she is survived by two sons, Ryan Reed and wife Traci of Montezuma, and Alan Reed and wife Hannah of Montezuma; one daughter, Megan Evans and husband Scott of Montezuma; six grandchildren, Ethan, Allie, Owen, Eli, Carson, and Kenna; two brothers, Rick Thomas and wife Brenda of Pueblo, Colorado, and Sid Thomas and wife Diane of Dodge City; her parents, Vic and Louise Thomas of Montezuma; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles all of whom shared in her life. Vicki is preceded in death by her grandparents.
Vicki was a teacher for 25 years, spending a majority of her time working as a special education teacher for the Copeland and Montezuma school districts. She had a true love and gift for teaching and working with special needs children. Upon retiring in May, 2003, Vicki enjoyed her chasing grandkids, traveling with her husband and friends, morning coffee groups and various Bible studies, and helping in numerous ways on the family farm. She taught Sunday School and helped with the AWANAS program for children for many years.
She was a member of Morningside Community Church, Trustee for the Montezuma Township Library, and a member of Bluelight EHU all of Montezuma.
Funeral service will be held at South Gray High School Gymnasium in Montezuma on Monday, March 21, 2016 at 2:30 PM with Pastor Tim Erickson presiding. Burial will follow at Morningside Cemetery, Montezuma. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Montezuma on Sunday, March 20, 2016 from noon to 6:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to the Vicki Reed Memorial Scholarship or the Montezuma Township Library in care of the funeral home.
