Verneal M. “Doc” Matheson
Verneal M. “Doc” Matheson, age 73, died Saturday, January 11, 2014 at St Catherine Hospital in Garden City. He was born August 17, 1940 in Rooks County, the son of Vernon & Leah (Mayo) Matheson. Verneal married Carolyn Thompson on July 14, 1963 at Garden City. She died on February 18, 2002.
Verneal attended school in Natoma and High School in Larned. After completing his schooling he worked on the family farm near Burdett. He served in the U.S. Navy and after his discharge in 1962 moved to Holcomb to continue to farm. He later got into the trucking business establishing Matheson Trucking Company, hauling cattle, grain & hay. He enjoyed his coffee shop route, watching & participating in races and tinkering with engines and vehicles. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife & 2 sisters- Patricia Brown & LaVernne Johnson.
Survivors include 2 sons, Tim Matheson of Holcomb, Kevin Dean Matheson of Holcomb; grandson, Timothy Matheson of Goodland; brother, Calvin Matheson of Iola; and 2 sisters, Verna Munk of Gorham, and Mary Logsdon of Rockaway Beach, Missouri.

Visitation: 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, 9:00 AM to Noon Wednesday , at Garnand Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City with Von Hunn officiating.
Interment: Valley View Cemetery in Garden City with graveside rites conducted by the Garden City Area Veterans Honor Guard.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Wounded Warriers in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
