Vera Helen Gatz Peery

Vera Helen Gatz Peery died peacefully at her home in Liberal on February 12, 2015 at the age of 93. She was born to David and Lena (Trefzer) Gatz on September 16, 1921 and raised on the farm in Falls City, Nebraska. She was the second of 3 siblings. 

On March 27, 1946, she married C. E. “Bud” Peery at Wichita, KS. Bud and Vera were married for 67 years and had made Liberal their home for the past 58 years. After Bud’s retirement from The National Supply Company, Vera and Bud spent most of their retirement years traveling the western United States attending many trap gun shooting events. Bud was a great trap shooter winning many events and Vera was his greatest fan. Vera was a loving wife, a wonderful mother and a great influence and mentor to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, a founding member of P.E.O. Chapter, IB and a volunteer with the Southwest Medical Center Auxiliary. 

She is survived by 1 Son: Michael Peery, Sugar Land, TX; 1 Daughter: Annette Fitzgerald and husband Mike, Liberal, KS; 1 Sister: Evelyn Yanders, Columbia, MO 4 Grandchildren: Garrett Peery, Cameron Peery, Matt Fitzgerald and wife Lindsay and Kate Mohrmann and husband Noel. 5 Great-Grandchildren. 

Vera was preceded in death by her husband, Bud on June 11, 2011; a daughter-in-law, Cynthia Peery and by one brother Robert Gatz. 

The family wishes to acknowledge the exemplary care of her caregivers who provided such good care to Vera during her last three years. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. 

Graveside Service will be held 11:00 am Monday, February 16th, at Liberal Cemetery with Pastor Kitty Lum presiding. There will be no public visitation. 

In lieu of flowers and plants, the family request memorial contributions sent to Veterans of Foreign Wars or the American Heart Association in care of Brenneman Funeral Home 1212 W. 2nd Liberal, KS 67901.
