Plymell Elementary School will celebrate Kansas Day on Tuesday, January 29th.  The students at the school will be making bread, butter and having Kansas Character presentations from 12:30 – 3:30 p.m.  Kansas Day commemorates the admission of the state as the 34th in the Union on January 29, 1861.


Garden City High School will sponsor an ACT Test Prep Class for GCHS students on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 from 8:30 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.  The class will be held in the GCHS library, 2720 Buffalo Way Blvd.  The fee for the class is $45 (pre-paid).

Pre-payment is necessary to register in the class. Students must register in the GCHS Career Center and pay the $45 fee to reserve a seat in the class by Wednesday, February 6th.  The class size is limited.

This workshop includes practical and relevant information on how a student can increase their ACT score.   It shows how to control the test and not let it control you.  The workshop covers what will be on the test and how to master test-taking techniques.  This class is not a practice test for the ACT.  Students will need to bring a pencil, paper and math calculator to the workshop.

Students will learn general ideas about the ACT as a whole and the individual tests that include: English, math, reading and science.  Students will learn what ACT test-writers are looking for in English and how to approach different types of questions. Math, students will learn about necessary problem-solving skills and math skills.  Reading, students will learn the best method for doing well on ACT reading. Science, students will learn common question types and what’s really required to do well on the test.

The Garden City High School Art Department will have a Student Art Exhibition February 1st – 23rd at Garden City Arts, 318 N. Main Street.  There will be around 80 art pieces on display during the event.  The pieces will include drawing, painting, sculpture, graphic design, ceramics, and mixed-media.


Garden City High School will host the 2019 Winter Art Showcase on Tuesday, January 29, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.  The show will be held in the Commons Area at the school, 2720 Buffalo Way Blvd.

There will be around 80 art pieces on display during the event. The show will have competition categories that include: drawing, painting, sculpture, graphic design, ceramics, mixed-media, and best of show.  The event will be juried by Brett Novak.


The Edith Scheuerman Elementary School Tigerrific Sign Choir will be providing its annual Singing/Signing Valentine’s from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 11th.   The choir will provide a singing/signing valentine to your special someone, like a friend, parents, grandparents, or anyone you wish for $10.00. Your loved one will also receive a carnation as part of the special serenade.

People interested in ordering the special serenade can contact Edith Scheuerman Elementary School at 620-805-7352 and ask for Diane Martinez.  Times are limited and the service is first-come, first-serve. 

All proceeds from the serenades go to the The Edith Scheuerman Elementary School Tigerrific Sign Choir for expenses.


Garden City residents can show their affection for friends and loved ones with a singing valentine from the Garden City High School Modern Show Choir.  Community members can have the choir serenade their beloved with a song for $25.00.  The choir will perform the singing valentines from 9:00 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday, February 13th, and Thursday, February 14, 2019.

The choir will also offer its singing services at scheduled times to high school students and staff during school on Wednesday, February 13th, and Thursday, February 14th.  The serenades at the high school will run $12.00 each.

All proceeds from the serenades go to the GCHS Modern Show Choir for expenses.


The Garden City High School Modern Show Choir will present a Valentine’s Dinner Show, entitled “Love is in the Air”, on Saturday, February 9th, in the Commons Area at Garden City High School, 2720 Buffalo Way Blvd.  This is a special evening for couples to get out and enjoy a dinner and a live show. 

The evening will include a tri-tip steak dinner and trimmings, along with an exquisite dessert table.  The GCHS Modern Show Choir will also be providing a show.  The price for the evening is $30 for an individual and $50 for a couple.  Guests can also reserve a table of eight for $250.  Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. with the dinner beginning at 6:30 p.m.
