USD 457 Plan Offers Three Learning Options

Garden-City-Schools-

USD 457

Garden City Public Schools will be offering different learning options for the 2020-2021 school year.  The goal of the district is to provide a quality education in the safest environment for both students and staff.

The learning options for families to choose for their child include: On-Site Learning, Remote Learning, and Blended Learning (7th -12th grades only).  Parents will be able to sign-up for the learning option they would like to have their child participate in for the school year through an online form on Skyward Family Access.  They can contact their child’s school for more information or help with the form.  Schools will be registering students into the plan in which their child will be instructed starting on August 5th.   The deadline for parents to decide on the learning option is Wednesday, August 19th.

The various learning options include:

On-Site Learning

It is the traditional learning environment where students will attend classes in person, at-school with additional safety measures implemented based on guidelines from the Finney County Health Department.

Remote Learning

It is where digital rigorous learning is completed at home through online, live or pre-recorded daily lessons, educational programs, assignments, and testing with daily communication between teachers, support staff and parent/guardian(s) to ensure all students are successful in their education.  For this choice, parents will need to sign the Learning Options form digitally, or contact their school office for other options.  The Remote/Blended Learning registration will not be finalized until after all Remote/Blended Learning agreement documents have been submitted.

Blended Learning

It is available for students in grades 7th – 12th.   It is where learning is a combination of On-Site Learning as well as Remote Learning.  This option is also available for Remote Learning students in 6th grade who wish to take band or orchestra on-site.  For this choice, parents will need to sign the Learning Options form digitally, or contact their school office for other options.  The Remote/Blended Learning registration will not be finalized until after all Remote/Blended Learning agreement documents have been submitted.

The start of the 2020-2021 school year will be Monday, August 31, 2020.  There will be a morning session of school that day for elementary, fifth, seventh, ninth and tenth grades as well as students new to the district.  The first day of school for all students will be Tuesday, September 1, 2020.

The district is asking parents to update their contact information with the schools. The district needs this contact information so buildings can contact families on any updates as it progresses through the school year.
