USD 457: Garden City High School Music Students Rank At State

GARDEN CITY, Kan. — Garden City High School music students participated in the Kansas High School Activities Association State 6A Solo and Ensemble Contest on Saturday, April 28th, held at Washburn Rural High School in Topeka, Kansas.  Students from band, choir, and orchestra participated in the event.  The students that participated in the state competition advanced from regional competition held in Dodge City on Saturday, April 13, 2019.   Students were rated from “I” to “V”, with a “I” rating being the best possible rating to receive.

The school had six band students perform solos at state.  Faith Whited received a “I” rating on the Euphonium.   Soloist receiving a “II” rating include: Daniel Castro, rudimental snare; Orion Craig trombone; Juan Moya, trombone; Melissa Fierro, flute; and Alonso Reyes, bassoon.

The school choir had three soloists compete and one ensemble.  The soloists receiving a “II” rating include: Carson Linenberger and Jason Tran.  Peter Hall received a “III” rating on his solo.  The Upperclassmen A Cappella Ensemble received a “I” rating.  The ensemble includes: Sarah Arrieta, Kenzie Britton, Aaron Canales, Sky Decker, Peter Hall, Giselle Martinez, Yvonne Mota, Brooklyn Percival, and Jason Tran.

The school had three orchestra students compete at the state contest.  All three students received a “I” rating.  The students include:  Dulce Perez, violin; Jayson Resendiz, bass; and Makenna Metheny, bass.
