Two Scott City softball players sign with college programs

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–With the success of the 2016 softball season, came the opening of an opportunity to play at the next lever for two Scott City softball players. Over the last week, two Lady Beavers signed their letter of intent to play college softball. Krystal Appel will be continuing her career at Colby Community College, while Nancy Wiebe has signed with Garden City Community College.

Appel has been a two-year starter for the Lady Beavers, and batted in the lead-off spot in 2016. She was very successful in that position, batting .514, with one home run and 21 RBI’s. Appel also had 23 stolen bases and scored 32 runs. She is planning on playing outfield for the Lady Trojans, where her high school head coach Erin Myers played from 2007-09, before transferring to Adams State. Appel is majoring in Physical Education.

One year ago, Wiebe had never played organized softball. Her junior season, she picked up the game quickly, and has never looked back. Wiebe’s first season was one where she worked her way into the lineup, playing a key part in Scott City’s 18-4 season. As a junior, she finished with a .485 batting average in 20 games, with 25 hits, 16 RBI’s and 19 runs scored. Wiebe will be majoring in Criminal Justice at Garden City.
