Two area golfers advance to match play

Mission Hills, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Two southwest Kansas golfers advanced to match play in the 104th Kansas Amateur Match Play Championships on Wednesday. 

Garden City’s Trenton Specht shot a six over, at 146 in the two qualifying days, good for a 24th place tie. Zach Kirby from Dodge City finished eight shots over par, shooting a 148 in 36 holes, and placed him in a 37th place tie.

Failing to qualify were Garden City’s Daniel Gaspar, Sean Thayer and Juan Ollarzabal. The projected cut was at +10 (150).

Today, Trenton Specht will face off against Tyler Shelton from Fairway, and Zach Kirby will face Brian Walker of Topeka in the round of 64.
