My dear husband, our father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Tobias Junior Schultz was born to Peter and Lena (Nightengale) Schultz on December 7, 1934 at Montezuma. The Angels gently carried him home in the afternoon of September 16, 2016 at Bethel Home in Montezuma reaching the age of 81 years.

He spent his childhood years in Fredonia, where he received his education. Dad answered the call to follow the Lord and was baptized by Jesse H. Jantz on April 4, 1948. His faith was precious to him and he left us with an assurance of salvation. All those who knew Dad were aware of his patient and tender heart. He enjoyed teaching Sunday School and taught for many years. Dad served his 1-W service at Roseburg, Oregon. He moved to Western Kansas in 1957 to work with a custom harvesting crew. There he met Josephine Schmidt and later they were married on February 9, 1958. Their life was blessed with one son and four daughters. Dad and Mom shared 58 wonderful years together farming, traveling to see their children, and spending four years as house parents in Gallup, New Mexico. This was a special time for Dad and Mom as they shared their love with those little Navajo children. His grandchildren held an important place in his heart and many prayers were sent up in their behalf.

In the summer of 2002, Dad and Mom moved to Montezuma and enjoyed a more relaxed lifestyle. Dad’s health began to decline and he moved into Bethel Home in January of 2016. Dad enjoyed the singing there and many times joined in. We as a family appreciate the loving care the nurses gave Dad.

Those left to cherish precious memories are his wife, Josie; five children: Gail and husband Oran Koehn of Brooksville, Mississippi; Shari and husband Carl Unruh of Elkton, Virginia; Scott and wife Rita of Ingalls, Kansas; Ann and husband Roger Yost of Vanceboro, North Carolina; and Sara and husband Troy Nichols of Grifton, North Carolina; twenty-five grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren.
He is also survived by two sisters: Martha Nichols of Brooksville, Mississippi and Delores Jantz of Brookston, Texas; and one sister-in-law: Pauline Schultz, Neodesha. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and four sisters.

Funeral service will be held at Living Hope Mennonite Church, Ingalls on Tuesday September 20, 2016 at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at Living Hope Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Montezuma on Monday September 19, 2016 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Bethel Home in care of the funeral home. Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
