TMP Marian baseball ends Scott City’s season

Lakin, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Scott City knew it would be a big challenge facing TMP Marian in their Class 3A Regional Semi-Final Wednesday afternoon at Loucks Park in Lakin. While the Beavers got a hit with the first batter, they were only able to get one additional runner aboard, as the Monarchs shut out Scott City 15-0 in four innings.

TMP took advantage of a pair of walks in the first inning, as Brady Kreutzer drove in two runs on a two-run single to make it 2-0 Monarchs after one. In the second, Scott City used four pitchers, and TMP Marian continued to feast on walks, scoring nine runs to push their lead to 11-0. Kreutzer doubled and drove in two runs, while Tate Garcia had a two-run double to start the scoring. They added three runs in the third, with two on sacrifice fly’s to go up 14-0, and ended the game in the bottom of the fourth on a Kreutzer sacrifice fly that scored Chase Werth to make the final 15-0.

Cole Zimmerman allowed one hit in four shutout innings for the win, striking out five and allowing a walk. Brady Kreutzer had five RBI and three hits, while Tate Garcia drove in three runs. TMP Marian finished with 10 hits in the game. Aaron Hoopes took the loss, giving up three runs in one-plus innings of work. Kevin Herman had the lone hit of the game.

Scott City finished their season at 8-10, the most wins since 2013. They also saw four senior starters play their final game in Zach Carson, Alex Depperschmidt, Brady Herman and Aaron Hoopes.

Colby scored two runs in the top of the seventh to defeat Lakin 6-4 in the second semi-final game. The championship game was won by TMP Marian 6-0 over Colby, as they will play at the Class 3A State Tournament in Manhattan on Thursday, May 24.
