To be a Tiger! Scott City’s O’Neil commits to Ft. Hays State for basketball
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Over the past decade, Scott City has had three former Beavers be a part of the Ft. Hays State Tiger basketball family. What makes this special is that not only have the three current and former members known how to win ball games, but they have won at least one state championship under Coach Glenn O’Neil. When the early signing period begins in November, you can add another Scott Community High School product to the list of Beavers moving on to the Division II Ft. Hays State University Tigers basketball program.
Late Wednesday evening, O’Neil made it official via twitter that he was ending the recruiting process and verbally committed to Ft. Hays State and Coach Mark Johnson.
O’Neil has been a two-year starter and a three-year varsity member. In the 2013-14 season, he averaged 21 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.3 assists, and led the Beavers to a second place finish in Class 4A, Division II. He scored 31 points in the overtime thriller against Concordia in the state semi-finals, and helped Scott City to state championships in Class 3A in 2012 and 2013.
After he signs, O’Neil, will join former SCHS standout Drew Kite on the Tiger Roster. Ft. Hays State plays in the ever-tough MIAA Conference, which includes Kansas schools Emporia State, Pittsburg State and Washburn.
