Tie-breaker Earns Buffalo Linksters Trip to the 6A Tournament at Home
The Garden City Buffalo and Dodge City Red Demon boys Golf teams qualified for the 6A State Tournament on Monday at Hutchinson’s Carey Park Golf Course. The two rival teams have battled each other all year long and the Red Demons earned the Western Athletic Conference title for 2012 as well. It was the Red Demons that topped the 8 team field with a score of 292 on the par 71 course, Hutchinson was 2nd with 298 and Garden City made it to State with dramatic fashion with a 3rd place finish. Its the top three teams that qualify and after the final two rounds Garden City and Maize were all tied at 316. In a tie-breaker you go to the 5th man score, their scores were tied here as well at 85 and then on to the 6th man scores and the Buffaloes Boone Wells had the lower score of 87 to give Garden City the 3rd place and a trip to State. Ironically, the 6A State Tournament will be on the Buffaloes home Course at Buffalo Dunes next Monday May 21st. Garden City as a team shot fairly well with some good individual scores, led by Scott Buckley with a 76, Bryer Livermore and Nick Mann both with 78, an 84 from Austin Swender, Braden Taylor shot an 85 and Boone Wells with the state clincher 87. Dodge City had the top medalist with Brad Hutton’s par 71, with three more Red Demon linksters in the top ten.
