Three-Peat; Ulysses wins GWAC Volleyball Tournament again

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Over the last three years, one team has been at the top of the Great West Activities Conference in volleyball. With a fairly young team two years ago, the Lady Tigers of Ulysses blew through the GWAC Tournament in Hugoton, were pushed a little last year in Colby. This year, Ulysses didn’t even drop a set on Saturday in Scott City, as they added to their resume a third GWAC Tournament title. The Lady Tigers have not lost a match in the tournament in the last three seasons.

Only two teams came close to winning a set against Ulysses. Colby had set point at 24, 25 and 26, only to see the Lady Tigers defeat the Lady Eagles in the second set at 28-26. Holcomb, who has pushed Ulysses earlier in the year, finished second in the tournament, only losing by three and five points in each set.

Hugoton, Colby and Goodland each had 2-3 records on the day, as they each split wins between each other, and Scott City finished sixth.

On Saturday, Ulysses will be in McPherson at the Class 4A, Division I Sub-State Tournament, Colby, Goodland and Hugoton head to Holcomb for the Class 4A, Division II Sub-State, and Scott City hosts the Class 3A Sub-State Tournament.
