Thomas “Tom” J. Vogel

Thomas “Tom” J. Vogel, 74, died Sunday, February 28, 2016 at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City. 

He was born November 19, 1941 at Wichita, the son of Herman F. and Elsie (Zimmerman) Vogel. A longtime Dodge City resident, he was a graduate of Sacred Heart School and St. Mary of the Plains High School. He worked in the floor covering business for many years as an independent contractor. He was a salesman for Jensen Carpet and Discount Floor Covering. He was part owner of the Speak Easy and TC’s Supper Club and was a bartender at numerous clubs and restaurants including, The Dodge House, Cowtown, Sand Dunes and Bad Habit Sports Bar all in Dodge City. He worked for the City of Dodge City in maintenance at the Civic Center, retiring in 2009. 

He coached little league baseball and Babe Ruth baseball for many years. He played softball for over 20 years and was a member of the Dodge City Sand softball team. 

He was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dodge City. 

On December 21, 2013 he married Betty Page at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe. 

Survivors include: his wife, Betty, Dodge City; 2 sons, Shane Vogel and wife Wendi, Roseville, California and Scott M. Vogel and wife Tammi, Miami, Florida; 2 daughters, Staci Pencis, Longmont, Colorado and Christi Taylor and husband Jay, Dodge City; 2 brothers, Gary Vogel, Denver and George Vogel and wife Barbara, Temple, Texas; 9 grandchildren, Brandon Vogel, Tyler Pencis, Brittany Pencis, Ashley Pencis, Teghan Pencis, Christopher Vogel, Sy Cox, Meghan Patten and Bethani Taylor; several great grandchildren; and 2 nephews, Gary M. Vogel and Jeff Vogel and a niece, Kelly Vogel. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman Vogel and Elsie Glover and his wife, Liz Pencis Vogel on December 25, 2001. 

Rosary will be at 10:15 am Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Funeral Mass will be 11:00 am Wednesday at the church with Fr. Aneesh Parappanattu presiding. Visitation will be from noon to 8:00 pm Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at Ziegler Funeral Chapel. Cremation will follow the Mass. Private family inurnment will be at a later date in Greencrest Memorial Gardens, Dodge City.
