The #1 Buffalo Grapplers Win Clay Center Tournament
Clay Center, KS (www.westernkansasnews.com) – The Garden City Buffalo Wrestling team is currently the top team in 6A and they proved it this past weekend, as they battled several tough teams in Central Kansas and dominated the Clay Center Tournament with 176 points to beat #2 Junction City with 118. The other ranked teams that finished a distant 3rd and 4th included 4A #1 Holton and 3A #1 Norton. The Buffaloes had four wrestlers win titles including defending state champion AJ Hurtado at 138 pounds and he won the most outstanding wrestler award. The top finishers included freshman Michael Prieto at 106, Tevin Briscoe at 132 and Trevor Kennedy at 145. More top placers for the Buffaloes included runner-up finishes for Chris Adler, Aaron Lozano and Sammy Reyes. Collecting 3rd place finishes included Matt Urrutia, Zac Finch, Juan Carlos Rodriguez and 4th place finishes for Efrain Sanchez, Randall Long and Samson Aldaco and a 5th place finish for Alec Castillo. The undefeated and #1 ranked Garden City Buffaloes will have a busy week on the road, as they will battle some top competition in the east side of the state in Lawrence on Thursday and then on the weekend, its the Kansas City Classic with teams and top wrestlers from all across the country.
