Supreme Court Says Schools Are Not Adequately Funded
(westernkansasnews.com) The long awaited decision has finally arrived and the Kansas Supreme Court says the legislature is not adequately funding education in the state.
The justices will allow the legislature until June 30th to come up with a new school funding formula something the legislators had to do anyway as a replacement to the block grants approved two years ago. The court determined that up to a fourth of students were being shortchanged by what is in place now for funding schools.
It remains to be seen what the legislature will do in fixing the education funding problem as part of an overall scheme to solve the state’s continuing budget shortfall.
