Summer Food Service Program Begins Monday
USD 457
Garden City Public Schools continues a program that provides summertime meals to children and youth in the community. The lunches will be provided Monday through Thursday during June. While meals for youth 18 and under are free, adults my purchase a lunch at a cost of $4.00.
The 2020 summer lunch program will take place at a number of schools in the district from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. The schools include Abe Hubert Elementary School, Buffalo Jones Elementary, Edith Scheuerman Elementary, Florence Wilson Elementary, Gertrude Walker Elementary, Jennie Barker Elementary, Jennie Wilson Elementary, and Victor Ornelas Elementary School.
There will also be a number of locations where the district will have school buses in the community for families go to get meals. The times and locations include:
10:15 – 11:30 at Acosta Trailer Park and Wagon Wheel.
10:15 – 10:45 a.m. at Plymell Trailers (Mimosa Rd), H&H Trailers, and Mansfield Rd. Trailers.
11:00 – 11:30 a.m. at Burnside Frontage, Farmland Road, and Towns Riverview.
The meals will be delivered curbside at the locations. For the safety of those getting the meals and the safety of the workers, please do not exit the vehicle when picking up the meals. Parents can use the mirror tags that they had during the school year for the Grab-and-Go lunches to pickup the food. Children may also walk to the locations to receive the bagged food.
The district would like to remind the community that during this time all school facilities, including playground equipment, are closed to the public. After picking up meals, all children and families are asked to honor social distancing.
The program is funded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture and is an equal opportunity provider.
