Sublette Native and Former Jayhawk Conference Player to Take Over GCCC Softball Program

Garden City, KS- Less than a month after losing former Trina Moquett as their softball coach, Garden City Community College has hired Becky Holland to take the reins of the Broncbuster team. She is a Western Kansas native and is also no stranger to the Jayhawk Conference. Holland comes to GCCC after spending the past four years at Pratt Community College. She was the assistant coach for three years before taking over as the head coach of the Beaver team a year ago. In her first year as the head coach, Holland led Pratt to a 22 and 32 record and a 13-17 record in Jayhawk Conference play. PCC is an NJCAA Division II program so her schedule was loaded with other teams that were competing at the NJCAA Division I level, including traditional Jayhawk West powers Seward County and Butler. During her three years as an assistant coach, Holland help lead the Beavers to a 92-67 record overall. Prior to her time at Pratt, Holland played collegiate softball at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, OK. During her time at NWOSU she posted a 23-16 record in the circle for the Rangers and was named second team All-Sooner Athletic Conference as a senior. Prior to her time at Northwestern, Holland played in the Jayhawk Conference at Seward County Community College. She was an all-conference selection both years at Seward and was twice named the NJCAA Pitcher of the Week. “We are very excited to add Becky to our coaching staff,” said Interim Athletic Director Ryan Ruda. “We feel very good that we have hired someone with previous head coaching experience in the conference. Becky will be a good fit for Garden City Community College and will hopefully carry on the strong tradition that we have established here.” A native of Sublette, KS, Holland received her Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Sports Science Education from Northwestern Oklahoma in 2008.
