Supreme Court Tells Legislature to Revisit School Funding Issue

Dodge City, KS (westernkansasnews.com)  The State Supreme Court sided with four school districts including Dodge City in ruling the block grant funding model for education insufficient. They have ordered lawmakers to rewrite the law and kick in at least another 54 million dollars by June 30th. Dodge City schools Superintendent Alan Cunnigham explains what this means.

State Representative Bud Estes of House District 119 thinks the justices missed the point on the intent of block grants.

Garden City Superintendent Steve Karlin underscores the urgency to do the right thing.

State Representative John Doll of Garden City is worried that putting ideology aside will for some be easier said then done.

Doll is calling for leadership from Governor Brownback and party leaders to come up with the right solution for kids in Kansas. The Supreme Court still has not ruled on adequately funding schools. That decision is expected in the next few months.
