(westernkansasnews.com) A new law raising income taxes goes into effect July 1, but the impact on taxpayers will stretch back to January.

Lawmakers passed Senate Bill 30 over Gov. Brownback’s veto to raise about $1.2 billion over two years to help balance the budget. Rates will also rise again in 2018.

The new bill means taxable income up to $30,000 will have a 2.9 percent tax. Taxable income between $30,000 and $60,000 will be taxed at 4.9 percent and income over $60,000 at 5.2 percent.
