State Budget Woes Could Have Affect on Local Governments
Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) The pinch is on and the state is not the only one feeling it. City and county governments are concerned that Topeka will not take the necessary steps needed to address Kansas’ looming 279 million dollar budget deficit.

As the state makes further cuts, more of the burden to cover key areas is being passed on. Garden City Manager Matt Allen identifies the area that worries cities the most.
Allen describes road maintenance as a hybrid model of state funding and property taxes, a balance he would like to see stay in place.
