State Board of Education To Visit District

The State Board of Education will be visiting Garden City Public Schools during the afternoon on Tuesday, October 1, 2019. The Board will tour Garfield Early Childhood Center and Garden City High School. There will also be a Superintendent’s Forum during the visit with area administrators.
That evening the Board will have a business roundtable that will be facilitated by the Garden City Area Chamber of Commerce. The Board will have a conversation about business/education partnerships, student internships and getting input from business leaders on other ways of getting students career ready.
The Kansas State Board of Education consists of 10 elected members, each representing a district comprised of four contiguous senatorial districts. Board members serve four-year terms with an overlapping schedule. Every other year, the State Board reorganizes to elect a chairman and vice-chairman. The State Board appoints a Commissioner of Education who serves as its executive director.
