Shorthanded Beavers finish sixth in Abilene

Abilene, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–In their final tournament before the Christmas break, the Scott City wrestling team went to Abilene on Saturday to compete in the Abilene Invitational. The tournament featured solid wrestlers from Class 3-2-1A to Class 5A, and saw some deep weight classes. Despite missing up to four regulars in the lineup, the Beavers placed sixth as a team, and had one champion.

Wyatt Hayes took the 170-pound weight class by knocking off the second-ranked wrestler in Class 3-2-1A in the finals to remain unbeaten on the year. Justus McDaniel took second at 126, falling to the third-ranked wrestler in Class 5A, and Cale Goodman took second at 182 pounds, dropping his championship match to the fourth-ranked wrestler in Class 5A. Also placing in the top four were Kaden Wren at 132, where he placed third and Brandon Roberts was fourth at 113 pounds.

Scott City will have have a double dual on Tuesday at home with Liberal and Holcomb, beginning at 5 pm.
