Short Go Sunday of the GCCC Rodeo

Garden City, KS(westernkansasnews.com) Garden City Community College hosted Short Go Sunday of the NIRA Rodeo. GCCC’s Ean Price and his brother Ethan, NWOSU, won the team roping contest with a time of 6.3 on Friday and a 6.7 on Sunday for  a total time of 13 seconds. Conners State’s Colton Kropf and Tyler McElhaney took second with a combined time of 13.6. Oklahoma State’s Sam Stamper and Grayson Allred finished third with a 22.4.

In goats ShiAnn Henderson from Southeastern Oklahoma State took first with times of 7.2 and 7.4 for a total time of 14.6 seconds. Henderson’s teammate Shelby Whiting posted a 7.6 and 7.5 for a 15.1 and NWOSU’s Jenifer Massing had a 7.7 and 7.4 to tie for second with a 15.1.  Garden City’s Peyton Welsh came in seventh with an 8.1 and 8.4 for a 16.5.

Oklahoma Panhandle State’s Will Martin took first in the bareback with a 74 and 76 for a total score of 150. His teammate Dylan Riggins was second with a 73 and 72 for a 145 and Jade Taton with a 69 and 70 for a 139.

In the tie down Western Oklahoma State College’s Shane Smith was first with a 9.1 and 8.5 for a 17.6. NWOSU’s Ethan Price took second with a 9.8 and 8.8 for an 18.6. Northeastern Oklahoma’s Joshua Pool was third with a 10 and 8.8 for an 18.8.

NWOSU’s Taylor Munsel took first in the break-away with a 2.1 and 2.8 for a total of 4.9. K-State’s Cara Jolly was second with a 2.8 and 3.1 for a total of 5.9 and SWOSU’s Stacy Bailey was third with a 3.2 and 2.9 for a 6.1.

In saddle bronc Fort Scott’s Trenton Burd and Dalton Testerman tied for first with a score of 143. Fort Scott’s Jade Taton also tied for third with a 133, OPSU’s Logan Hay and Sam Martin also tied for third.

SWOSU’s Paul Melvin took first in steer wrestling with a 4.6 and 4.7 for 9.3 seconds. NWOSU’s Cody Devers wasn’t far behind at 9.5 seconds and K-State’s William Buchanan posted 10 seconds.

In the barrel race Pratt Community College’s Natalie Berryhill came in first with a combined score of 29.39 seconds. In second was Southeastern’s Cierra Chapman at 29.71 seconds, SWOSU’s Shanna Simmons was right behind in third at 29.78.

Southeastern’s Fulton Rutland  was the only bull rider to post two scores at 75 and 66 for a total of 141 and first place. SWOSU’s Nathan Hatchel came in second posting a 71, while OPSU’s Callum Miller was third with a 69. They were the only three riders to post scores this weekend.
