Secretary of State Not Worried About Criticism
Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) Tangled in a legal controversy over the state’s voter id laws. Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach was in Garden City Thursday, one day after filing for re-election. Kobach calls himself the guardian of state sovereignty.
Kobach also answers critics that say he has overextended the role of his office.
In defending the voter id law, Kobach provides an example from Seward County on why its enforcement is so important. Back in 1997, illegal votes were cast in a ballot initiative on hog farming.
Kobach says that is why his job is to make sure only Kansas citizens vote.
Kobach says several elections have been determined by five votes or less and one ended in a tie that required a coin flip in his office.
