Scott City’s Shapland signs with Fort Hays State Track program

Scott City, Kan. (westernkanssasnews.com)–Madison Shapland knew there would be a good chance of going to college on an athletic scholarship. The question would be whether or not it was in basketball or track. On Friday afternoon, Shapland’s reality came true, as she made it official, with her signing a letter of intent to compete in track at Fort Hays State University.

Shapland battled injuries during her junior year, cutting her track season short. As a sophomore, she placed eighth in Class 3A in pole vault with a height of 9-6, and was a member of the 4x400M Relay State Championship team. She also is the co-holder of the Scott City’s pole vault record at 10-6.

While she has signed to be part of the Tiger track program, she will redshirt for the indoor/outdoor track season next year, as she is having surgery on a labrum tear around the hip at the conclusion of the track season this year.

While studying at Fort Hays State, Shapland will major in psychology.
