Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Jackson Rumford had several options to compete collegiately. The four-sport athlete had opportunities in football, basketball track & field and golf. When it was all said and done, Rumford decided on track & field, signing his letter of intent to throw javelin at Ft. Hays State University.

Rumford has placed his last two seasons in the state javelin. His throw of 188-1 saw him finish second in Class 4A last year, and as a sophomore in 2023, he placed sixth in Class 3A.

Not only has he been an a two-time medalist in the javelin, he’s been a three-time state placer in golf, all-state in basketball and football, and was selected to play in the Kansas Shrine Bowl this June in Dodge City.

Rumford is undecided on his major, but could look at majoring in accounting or engineering.
