Scott City’s Huck reflects on time as SCHS Activities/Athletic Director

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–In 15 years, Randy Huck has seen quite a bit during his tenure as Scott City’s Activities/Athletic Director. He is retiring from SCHS June 30.

Overall, there have been plenty of positives that have taken place, from championships, to programs heading in the right direction. You can’t overlook the change of leagues, making the transition to the Great West Activities Conference from the Mid State Activities Association.

The SCHS Alum has been around Scott City athletics as a student athlete, who played in the 1976 Shrine Bowl for the West Squad. He returned to the school district as a Rule 10 assistant football coach in 1993, and advanced in to teaching and then eventually as Activities/Athletic Director and Assistant Principal at Scott Community High School. During his 15-year run, Huck saw the athletic program pick up 14 state championships of it’s 27 in school history, make the move to an ultra-competitive Great West Activities Conference, that has had 25 state championships as a league. The Beavers have produced 11 of those state titles.

Among the 14 state championships during Huck’s tenure, five came from Basketball (2006, 11, 12, 13, 15), four in Boys Track (2008, 16, 18, 19), two in Wrestling (2012, 18) and a title in Boys Cross Country (2007), Girls Cross Country (2018), and Football (2012).
