Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Fort Hays State University has been a destination for many Scott City athletes through the years. In 2016, you can add another name to the list, as standout Cooper Griffith has officially signed his letter of intent to continue his education and football career for the Fort Hays State Tigers.

Griffith was a three-year starter for the Beavers, playing middle linebacker, and fullback on offense, although he did play on the line for a portion of the 2013 season. During his high school career, he rushed for 2,592 yards and 42 touchdowns. He rushed for 1,308 yards and 24 touchdowns his senior season. Defensively, Griffith had 417 tackles in his career, with 123 coming his senior campaign to go along with an interception return for a touchdown. His efforts earned him a spot in the Kansas Shrine Bowl in July.

As for the 6-foot, 215-pound player, Griffith will play linebacker at Fort Hays State, and chose the Tigers over Missouri Western and Emporia State. He will major in Agriculture/Beef Cattle Management at Fort Hays State.

Fort Hays State went 8-4 in 2015, with a loss in the Mineral Water Bowl to Minnesota-Duluth, and finished 8-3 in the MIAA Conference. They’re coached by Liberal native Chris Brown, who has been the head coach for the Tigers for the past five seasons, and has a 30-26 record during that tenure.
