Scott City XC sweeps Ness City Invite, girls tennis has rough day at Ellsworth
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–On a busy Thursday for Scott City athletics, the cross country teams made the trip to Ness City for the Ness City Invitational, while the girls tennis team competed in their second to last regular season meet at Ellsworth.
For the cross country teams, the boys and girls won both the team titles. On the boys side, the Beavers won with 49 points, edging Wallace County, who had 58 points. Eric Frances led the team with a third place finish in a time of 18:04. Theron Tucker was right behind him in fourth place with a time of 18:07. Jaxson Kough was eighth (18:35), Roberto Apodaca 10th (19:02), Eric Shapland 30th (20:35), Logan Yeadon 31st (20:36) and Erick Castillo was 43rd (21:25). For the girls, they won the meet with 27 points, while Trego was second with 51. Clare Hawkins was the leading runner, finishing in third with a time of 21:30, Dulce Ayala was fourth with a time of 21:39 and Piper Wasinger finished fifth with a time of 22:09. Megan Vance came in seventh (22:25), Kairae Berry 10th (23:05), Samantha Aguilar was 16th (24:18) and Kodi Rogers placed 31st with a time of 26:46. Scott City will next run at the Lakin Invitational next Saturday, October 6.
The girls tennis team had a rough day at the Ellsworth Invitational, facing potential regional competition. The Lady Beavers finished in fifth with eight points. Salina South won the meet with 36 points, followed by Ellsworth with 26, while Victoria was third and Phillipsburg in fourth. Finishing the highest for Scott City was the No. 2 Doubles team of Giselle Aguirre/Marisela Chavez, who finished in third place. Placing fourth were Cyntia Gonzalez at No. 2 Singles and the No. 1 Doubles team of Lanae Haupt/Yami Sanchez. Abbie LeBeau was fifth at No. 1 Singles. Scott City will head to the Ulysses Invitational for their final meet before regionals on Monday.
