Scott City wrestlers see mixed results in Lexington

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Injuries have been a part of Scott City’s wrestling season. With a new wrestler out on Saturday, the Beavers took to the mats out of State at the John Higgins Invitational in Lexington. Scott City would have a tournament champion, and place three others, as they took 10th place as a team against some quality opponents in Nebraska.

Hastings won the meet, with 187 points, followed by Sidney with 167.5 and Lexington had 151. Scott City finished with 67.5.

Scott City got a first place finish from Jarret Jurgens at 160 pounds, after he won by major decision, fall and in the finals won in overtime to claim the gold medal.

Wyatt Hayes dropped his first match of the year in the semi-finals by fall in the first period, but worked his way to a third place finish with a technical fall and a fall for the third place finish at 170 seconds.

At 182, Cale Goodman was able to take home fifth place, after working his way out of the consolation quarterfinals, and won by decision in his fifth place match.

Justus McDaniel at 126 pounds placed sixth, after losing his semi-final match by fall, and medical forfeited out of the tournament.

Picking up at least one win in the tournament were Theron Tucker at 138 and Taylor Heili at 220. Tucker lost in the consolation second round, while Heili lost in the consolation third round.

Scott City will be wrestling at the Rocky Welton Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Garden City.
