Scott City volleyball, tennis see mixed results Thursday

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–With the fall sports season moving on to another month, the Scott City volleyball and tennis teams were on the road on Thursday. The volleyball went 1-2 in Holcomb at the GWAC quadrangular, while the girls tennis team was fifth at the Ellsworth Round Robin.

Scott City’s volleyball team struggled at Holcomb on Thursday. The Lady Beavers had a tough time in their last two sets with Ulysses. They won the first set against the Tigers 26-24, but dug big holes in the last two sets, falling 25-21, 25-22. Against Hugoton, Scott City improved and saw wins over the Eagles 25-17, 25-22, heading into their final match of the day against Holcomb. The Lady Longhorns ended up going undefeated on the day, as they pulled away in both matches against Scott City 25-14, 25-12. The Lady Beavers are now 7-5 overall, 1-2 in GWAC play, and will be at the Oakley Invitational on Saturday. The tournament starts at nine, and Scott City will face Quinter to start the day at around 10, followed by Colby at 11 and against Triplains at 2 pm in the Impact Center.

As for girls tennis, Scott City sent a mixed group of varsity and junior varsity to Ellsworth and finished fifth in the round robin tournament. The No. 1 Doubles team of Krystal Appel/Emma Price finished second, the No. 2 Doubles team of Kearston Buffington/Savanna Steffens and No. 1 Singles player Jennie Erven placed fourth, and Dallie Matheny was fifth at No. 2 Singles. Up next will be the regular season finale on Saturday at the Ashland Coaches Classic in Dodge City.
